180th Anniversary – Free Community Exhibition

2014 marked a significant milestone for St John’s Church as it proudly celebrated its 180th anniversary since it first opened its doors in 1844. This momentous occasion not only honoured the rich history and deep-rooted traditions of the church but also reflected its unwavering commitment to faith, community, and service.

Since its humble beginnings 180 years ago, St John’s Church has stood as a beacon of hope and a sanctuary of spiritual nourishment for generations of worshippers in Hildenborough. Over the decades, it has evolved into a vibrant hub of faith, welcoming individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, united in their devotion to God and their dedication to living out the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Through times of joy and sorrow, triumphs and challenges, St John’s has remained steadfast in its mission to spread love, compassion, and goodwill within the community and beyond. From its youth groups and teaching courses, foodbank and community outreach to impactful charitable initiatives and educational endeavours, the church has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Rev Tim Saiet said “As we commemorated our 180th anniversary, we reflected on the incredible journey that brought us to this moment. Thanks to the dedication and passion of countless individuals over the years, St John’s is the vibrant and thriving community it is today. We are immensely grateful for the blessings we have received and remain committed to serving as a beacon of hope, inspiration, and love for many more years to come.”

To celebrate this momentous occasion, St John’s planned a series of special events and activities throughout the year, including a commemorative service on 25th May, historical exhibition, community outreach projects, and fellowship gatherings. These events provided an opportunity for members, past and present, to come together in celebration, reflection, and gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon the church over the past 180 years.

As part of our commitment to fostering community partnerships and promoting education, we were thrilled to collaborate with the Hildenborough History Society, local organisations and our village primary schools to co-create a special history exhibition.

As St John’s Church embarks on the next chapter of its journey, it does so with a renewed sense of purpose, guided by the timeless values of faith, love, and unity. With the support of its dedicated congregation and the wider community, the church looks forward to continuing its mission of spreading God’s love and serving as a source of strength and inspiration for generations to come.
